Gene E. Fischer, 90, of Fort Collins, passed away on May 20, 2018. Gene was born on September 17, 1927, in Alma, Nebraska. He was one of ten children of German immigrants, Ernst and Christina (Weissharr) Fischer. After his father's untimely death in 1930, Gene's family relocated to a farm outside Wakefield, Nebraska where the single-parent family persevered against the great depression.

Gene graduated from high school at age 16, and enrolled in the University of Nebraska before enlisting in the Army at age 17, in 1944. After occupying Japan subsequent to the surrender, Gene moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to attend Colorado State University on the GI Bill and play football. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University.

Gene then went on to attend law school at the University of Colorado where he graduated in 1955 and returned to work in Fort Collins.

It was in Fort Collins that he met the love of his life, Marylynn (Keithly) Fischer, and they were married in June of 1958. They remained married until Marylynn's death in 2016.

Gene had a long and storied legal career in Fort Collins. He is survived by his two sons, Erik and Christopher, who both followed Gene into the practice of law. Gene is also survived by his two daughters, Lynne and Karen, who both reside in Fort Collins, Colorado. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Evan Fischer, and his grandson, Paul Fischer. Gene was the last living of his brothers and sisters.
