Evelyn Payton

Evelyn Norma Payton of LaPorte passed away peacefully at her home May 3, 2008. Evelyn was born March 16, 1925, in Omaha Neb., to Bill and Martha Stringham. She was raised in the Denver area but spent the last many years of her life in her home in LaPorte. She was the youngest of five children. Evelyn married Chester Payton on April 5, 1959, in Glendale, Calif. Evelyn had two children from a previous marriage, Thomas Earl Pierce and Patricia Elaine Snelling. She had four stepchildren from her marriage to Chester, Mike Payton, Darrel Payton, Donna Swartout Payton and Terry Payton. Evelyn was employed with Teledyne Water Pik for more than 25 years, retiring in 1991. She enjoyed her work at Teledyne and had many friends there. She was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed watching the Colorado Rockies. She also loved the outdoors, and every summer weekend Evelyn, Chester and their friends and family would gather together and enjoy fishing, camping and boating in the Colorado mountains. Evelyn had 14 grandchildren, 37 great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William and Jess; her sister, Thelma; her son, Thomas Earl Pierce; her daughter, Patricia Elaine Snelling; and her stepson, Darrel Payton. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Cremation will take place. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.bohlenderfuneralchapel.com .
