Wilma Lucille Hunter Ashbaugh, 98, of Fort Collins entered Eternal life on June 6, 2009. She was born on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1911 in Page, NE to Hugh Harold and Emma Jane Fellers Hunter. The family lived in Page, Wall, SD, Upton, WY, Fort Morgan, CO and moved to Fort Collins in 1924. Wilma graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1929 with the first class to go all four years at the new Fort Collins High School. In 1959, she graduated from Colorado State University. Wilma was a school teacher, starting her career at Meadow Hollow School west of Berthoud when she was 19 years old. She taught in several one room schools throughout Colorado before she was married. The last 16 years of her teaching career were at Berthoud Elementary. In 1939, she accepted a teaching position at Buckingham, Colorado where she met the love of her life, Roy Morton Ashbaugh. They married on May 19, 1940 in Fort Collins in her parent's back yard. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Collins for 85 years. She is survived by her brothers; Kenneth L. Hunter wife, Jean of Cottonwood AZ, and Rev. Robert E. Hunter wife, Anne of Lakewood, CO; daughter, Rosalie Ashbaugh and son, Eldon wife, Janella Ashbaugh of Fort Collins; granddaughters, Amy Grant of Longmont, Mindy Sigg of Westminster, grandsons, Jordan and Adam Ashbaugh; great-grandchildren, Austin, Parker, Chance, Dakota and Bailey; four nieces and eight nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy 1949; brothers, George and Leland Hunter; sister, Phyllis Butler; infant son, Alvin; and great-grandson, Zachary. A Memorial Service will be held on June 25, at 4:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover St., Fort Collins, CO 80524. Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church at the above address. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at a later date.
