William "Billy" Maher, 61, of Laporte, CO passed away after a brief illness Tuesday night, September 13, 2016 at McKee Hospice Center with his wife at his side.
Billy was born in Jersey City, NJ, January 14, 1955 to William Maher and Gertrude Whalen. He moved to Colorado in 1978. Billy's careers were many including lifeguard, painter, salesman and his long stretch as a truck driver; he was last employed at Martin Marietta in Fort Collins.
Billy knew a wide variety of people whether you knew him as "Bill", "Billy", "Jersey", or "Two Dollar Billy" and could talk to anyone. Every where they went they would run in to someone he knew.
Billy met Sharon Vavra in 2001 and they were married in 2010 and established their home in Laporte, CO.
Billy was an avid Bronco fan and also enjoyed winemaking with his friend Ralph, playing with their two miniature Schnauzers, Trucker & Wyatt, gardening, golfing and visiting with friends and family. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron #4, Fort Collins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents. He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Vavra); his sister Kathy (Al) Muzikar of Old Bridge, NJ. His niece Michelle (Rob) Grieco and their twins RJ & Victoria of Jackson, NJ; and nephew Michael (Erica) Muzikar and their daughter Ariana of Old Bridge, NJ and his longtime best friend Jeff Neppel of Fort Collins, CO
His family would like to thank Pathways Hospice for their help with Billy. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date.
