Virgil Dean Richardson, 84, passed away Dec. 5, 2007, at Poudre Valley Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1922, to Emil and Sadie Richardson in Shickley, Neb., moved to Gearing and served in the engineering core in WWII, Omaha Beach 3. After the war, he settled in Torrington, Wyo., where he met and married Betty Joan Schnell in 1952 and started their family while working at United Telephone and Telegraph and the local movie house. There, he built their first home with their fathers' help. In 1955 they moved to Fort Collins where he worked for Mountain Bell and eventually retired from AT&T in 1988. In 1963, he built the house he lived in until his passing. Virg was a member of the VFW and the Moose. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking, electronics, home and landscaping projects, personal computers and the grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry; son, Douglas; and daughter-in-law, Jane. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sisters, Viola Butterfast, Darlene Rhoads, Norma Jean Flood and Patricia Helquist; son, Bradley, and wife Shelly and children Taylor and Amy; son, Russ, and wife Shelli and daughter Nicole; daughter, Robbin TeMaat, and husband Craig and children Karre Diem and Travis TeMaat of Fort Collins; son, Greg, and wife Nancy and daughter Katie of Tennessee; son, Vern, of Loveland; and grandsons, Chris Richardson and Jason Gardiner. A memorial service celebration of our life with Virgil will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 916 W. Prospect Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526, Interment with military honors by the Fort Collins all Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
