Marlene Renee Lass, 63, passed gently into the arms of her Lord Jesus, on June 18th, 2020, surrounded by loving family, at her home in Johnstown, Colorado. Marlene courageously fought a battle with metastatic breast cancer for eighteen months. Her deep faith in Christ was her strength and love of family and friends were her support. She is now free and suffers no more!
Marlene was born on November 26th, 1956, to her parents Rinehold (Jr) and Mildred (Andrasek) Peter, at Larimer County Hospital, in Fort Collins, CO. She grew up on Mountain Avenue in Fort Collins and attended Dunn Elementary, Lincoln Junior High, and graduated from Poudre High School, Class of 1975. She played the clarinet in the PHS marching band. After graduating, she briefly attended cosmetology school. She worked for CSU - summer housekeeping, Four Seasons Nursing Home - nursing aide, and JC Penney's - sales clerk.
Marlene was actively involved at First Assembly of God throughout her childhood and teen years. She was a "Missionette", enjoyed youth group activities, played the clarinet in the church orchestra, and sang in the choir.
Marlene met Gary Lass at a church youth function and dated a few times. Gary enlisted in the US Navy, and while in boot camp in San Diego, CA, they began writing letters back and forth, and love was signed, sealed, and delivered! While home on a brief leave, Gary proposed on the front porch of her family's Mountain Avenue home and she joyfully said, "Yes!". A few months later, they were married on May 30th, 1981, at First Assembly of God in Fort Collins. Immediately following their wedding, they relocated to Idaho Falls, ID, where Gary was in training for the Navy. In January 1982, he was assigned to the John C Calhoun submarine based in Charleston, SC. While residing in SC, they became proud parents of their son Matthew. The family moved back to northern Colorado in 1988, where son Andrew was born. The family bought a home in Brush, CO in 1995 and attended The Sanctuary Church in Fort Morgan and Calvary Assembly of God in Brush. They served in many capacities, but especially loved singing together on the worship teams at both churches. They moved to Johnstown in 2012.
Marlene was passionately involved with the outreach ministry of Generation Kids, volunteering with them on faith-based, after-school programs for underprivileged children, and also served as their administrative assistant.
Marlene greatly loved being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for herself, her boys, and dresses for her niece. She liked finding new recipes to try, and visits with friends and family. She and Gary enjoyed traveling and took many trips around the United States throughout their 39 years together.
Proceeding Marlene in death, were her grandparents, Rinehold (Sr) & Elenore Peter, Bohuslav & Matilda Andrasek, and father-in-law George Lass. She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Lass, her beloved sons Matthew Lass of Johnstown and Andrew Lass of Longmont, CO, parents, Rinehold & Mildred Peter of Fort Collins, her brother Arnold & Kenda Peter of Fort Collins, her mother-in-law Virginia Lass, and many extended family members including various aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
