It is with heavy hearts that the family of John D. Pedley announces his passing on October 14, 2016 at his home. John was born in Chicago on March 10, 1949 to Patricia and Marion Pedley. John is survived by his mother Patricia (Fort Collins). Sister, Mary Pekara and Brother-In-Law Bryan (Windsor) Nephews Bryan Jr. and Joseph. Sister, Jeanine Emory and Brother-In-Law Gordon (Fort Collins) Nieces/Nephews Lauren, Steven, Kailyn, and Kevin.
John owned and operated his business, FenceMaster for 40 years. John also owned and operated John's Pizza in the 1980's. It was the first pizza place in La Porte. He was a hard-worker and dedicated to his businesses and customers. John was an avid sports fan and enjoyed his beloved San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls and the Denver Broncos.
John enjoyed music and was a songwriter and bass guitarist. While in High School and College in Chicago he was a member of a few bands, including the Continentals and Growin' Concern. His band The Growin' Concern recorded albums in Chicago and New York and appeared regularly on a local television program in Chicago. He had several favorite musical artists including the Beatles/Wings which he saw in concert many times. Other favorite artists included Elton John, Janice Joplin, Crosby Stills and Nash, Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong to name a few. His favorite musical past-time was performing and jamming with his friends and local musicians in the Fort Collins area.
John was passionate about art and photography. His was an art lover and collector and favored Native American pieces. He enjoyed attending art gallery events and visiting art museums, especially the Art Institute of Chicago. Other passions were bike riding, model trains, and spending time outdoors. His favorite vacation destinations were San Francisco, Chicago, Santa Fe, and all of the National Parks.
John was a practical joker and had a great sense of humor with a twist of sarcasm! We could always count on him for a laugh. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He will be missed dearly.
John lost his battle with lung cancer and a stroke. He gave his battle a good fight, but passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. From the bottom of our hearts, the family thanks his friends, doctors, nurses and staff at UC Health/PVH, Pathways Hospice and community members for their comfort of care, their support, love, prayers, and well wishes during this difficult time.
A visitiation will be held Wednesday, October 19 at Bohlender Fuineral Chapel. The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 20 also at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. Everyone is invited to stay for a reception. The graveside service will be hel 1:30 p.m. at Grandview following the reception.
