John Robert Foote Sr. quietly passed away on Dec. 30, 2005. He is survived by his former wife and best friend, Clare Foote; twin brother, Robert; sons, John Jr., Keith, Kevin and Jeff; and his grandchildren, Jeremy, Adam, Jenifer, Sara, Brian and Margaret. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew J. and Therma Talley Foote, and brothers, Richard and Andrew. John was born on June 10, 1924, and was raised in Chicago until he was 10 years old when he moved to Colorado to live on the ranch of his uncle, Floyd Mason, of Masonville. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946 after achieving the rank of Gunner's Mate 3rd Class. Following the war, he moved to Chicago and married the former Clare Alice McHugh in 1947. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for many years before becoming a truck driver. He and Clare raised their sons in the Chicago area and moved to Fort Collins in 1971, where John ran his own business, John Foote Trucking. He was a life member of the Masons and also belonged to the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 275, and American Legion Post 0211. After retiring from the trucking business John spent his summers in Fort Collins working for Fort Collins Truck Sales and his winters were spent as a volunteer staff member and campground host at Lyman Lake State Park in St. John's, Ariz. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be on Jan. 28 at the Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church.
