Our sweet, sweet mom, Joann Margaret Montgomery, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2018 at the age of 88. She was born on October 29, 1930 in Kansas City, KS to Everett Watt and Elsie Rawles Watt. After graduating high school, she worked at Bethany Hospital as a medical transcriber.
She married Robert J. Montgomery on November 7, 1954. Early in their marriage, they moved a number of times as evidenced by their children's birthplaces. Sarah born in Joliet, IL; Jeff born in Phoenix, AZ; and Scott and Martha born in Northridge, CA. They settled in Simi Valley, CA for 7 years before moving to Fort Collins, CO in 1967. They moved to Fort Collins to open the Der Weinerschnitzel and later owned both South and North A&W's.
But mom's real love was antiques which led to the opening of the Silent Woman Antiques store on W. Mountain Ave. Her pride and joy was our home on Remington St. which allowed her to decorate with her most treasured antique furniture, glassware, paintings, etc.
After her children were all raised and out of the home, she went back to work for several different doctors in town. She loved working mainly because of the interaction with people.
Joann was devoted to her church of 50 years, First Baptist Church, now known as Lifepointe Church. She created many lifelong friendships that she cherished after her divorce. She was a greeter at the church for many years. She loved all social outings, especially her Sunday School group. They always brought in the New Year with a potluck at one of their homes. One of her other joys was planning trips with her closest group of friends from church. They especially loved going to Branson, Missouri but did travel all over the country.
Our mom will always be known for her sweetness and kindness to all; her beautiful smile; her classiness and her appearance (she should have been spokeswoman/model for Coldwater Creek); her love for her family and friends throughout her life.
Joann is survived by her brother, Dr. John Watt, Wisconsin, and 4 children, Sarah (Steve) Solano, Ft. Collins; Jeff (Dawn) Montgomery, Bremerton, WA; Scott Montgomery, Ft. Collins; Martha (Scott) Freeman, Urbandale, IA. She also has 5 grandchildren, 3 great-granddaughters, and 3 nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, November 30, 2018 at LifePointe Church, 900 E. Prospect Rd.
