Lenna Eunice "Jean" Nelson passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, at the McKee Hospice Center after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Jim; her children, Pat Roy Gueswel of Lamar, and Mike Tricea Nelson of Livermore; four granddaughters, Royale Gueswel of Seattle, Roice Jef Mumford of Lamar, and Robin Will Heffley Armijo of Seattle, Bonnie Jean Clark of Colorado City, Texas; as well as eight great-grandchildren, Leroy & Patrick Heffly, Garrett Armijo, J.J., Samuel, & Izabeth Mumford, and Michael Gueswel. Also, she is survived by one brother, Joe Peacock of Mesa, Ariz.; and one sister, Lois Gavett, of Colorado Springs. Preceding her in death are both of her parents, one brother, and two sisters. Jean was born in Baxter Springs, Kan. She was raised in Mountain Grove, Mo. She worked in the Topeka, Kan., Boeing plant as a riveter on the B29 Super Fortress. In 1943, she moved to Denver where she was a nurse at National Jewish Hospital. She and Jim were married Dec. 23, 1945, and moved to Fort Collins where she worked as a nurse at Fort Collins Hospital. She also worked for Busley's, Red Owl, Piggly Wiggly, Safeway and Paramont Laundry. From 1966 to 1973, she and Jim owned and operated Hilltop Caf ¬ and truck stop in Virginia Dale. Jean was the last postmaster for the Virginia Dale Post Office. Jean enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafts. Her exceptional skills as a seamstress were widely known. She loved spending her time at the weekly sewing sessions with the ladies from her church. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Roy Gueswel will officiate at the service.
