Florine Dixon, 100, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away at home on New Year's Day, January 1, 2019. Her husband, Charlie, passed away eighteen years earlier on the same date. Some may say this is a coincidence, but our family believes it's a God-Wink.
Florine was born May 14, 1918 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Thomas and Bertha (DeBolt) Ruddick. At the age of three, the family moved into the house that her father built. Florine resided in this house for 97 years.
Florine and Charles Hall Dixon eloped and were married in Greeley, Colorado, on June 23, 1937. Her wedding dress was the same dress that she wore for her graduation from Fort Collins High School. Charlie moved into Florine's family home after they were married. Over time, they became a family of five, welcoming three sons – Ray, Larry, and Ron.
Florine loved to go dancing with Charlie, although we're not sure if Charlie liked dancing as much as she did. She loved the color pink, roses and lilacs, watching Ron play City League softball, lemon meringue pie, reunions, and dinners out with family, friends, and "The Gang"–Ruth Haugen, Annette Metcalf, and Jim and Sheila Ferguson. Friends were important to her. She looked forward to her daily calls from her friend, Veronica, and their visits every other weekend. She also enjoyed many calls and visits from her friends Lisa and Gloria. Florine loved animals and had poodles, kitties, and the neighborhood squirrels. These chubby squirrels loved her too, and clung to her screen door waiting for peanuts and cookies. She also had a passion for travel. Her travel adventures included visits to Japan, Scotland, and Mexico.
Florine leaves behind three sons: Ray (Sheri) Dixon, Larry (Lyla) Dixon, and Ron (Sonya) Dixon – all of Fort Collins, Colorado; four grandchildren: Adam (April) Dixon, Heather (Ken) Godell, Kim Dixon (Cheryl Bengford), and Shawn Dixon; and three step-grandchildren: Chris (Tony) Giro, Tina (Shawn) Kane, and Marc (Christine) Sund. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren: Anthony, Kayla, Alyssa, Devin, Luke, Lynae, Tyler, Dawson, Britni, and Hunter (Katie); and six step-great grandchildren: Jackson (Ashlee), Palmer, Porter, Flynn and Ava. Six great-great grandchildren round out the bunch: Sam, Noah, Zaylor, Olivia, Aubree and Havana. She also leaves behind nephews Delbert (Sue) Dixon and Derrol Dixon, and great-nephew David (Wendy) Dixon and their families.
Florine was preceded in death by Charlie, her beloved husband of 64 years; parents, Thomas and Bertha Ruddick; baby sister, Florence Ruddick; sister and brother-in law, Fern and Gerald Dixon; daughter-in-law, Nancy Dixon; grandson, Jason Dixon; her beloved niece, Debbie Dixon; and good friends, Harold and Harriet Hovland.
She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
