Listen to Obituary
Evelyn May Klein Berry was born May 18, 1930, in a small house on Sherwood St. in Fort Collins, Colorado. Her parents were George and Mollie Klein, who were immigrants from Germany.
Evelyn passed away May 22,2017, as the result of a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
Evelyn attended Plummer Elementary School and then graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1948. She worked at a bakery and later for the Public Service Company before marrying Samuel Berry on March 11, 1951. Sam joined the U.S. Navy, so Evelyn and Sam lived in Memphis and San Diego from 1950-1951. After the Navy, they returned to Fort Collins to raise their family: Edwin (born 1953), Rick (born 1955), and Kathleen (born 1958).
Evelyn worked for Poudre Valley Hospital. After retiring, she continued working part-time at various jobs around Fort Collins including: The Mole Hole, Foley's Department Store, Swiss Colony, Mary's Mountain Cookies, and Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
Evelyn spent every summer gardening and growing food for the family. Evelyn and Sam were members of the American Baptist Church. Evelyn spent Sunday afternoons visiting friends and church members, often visiting them in the hospital or in nursing facilities. Evelyn liked writing letters and cards and spent hours sending cards to anyone she thought needed reminding that someone cared. Sam and Evelyn also volunteered for the PTA, Poudre Valley Hospital, the Senior
Center, 4-H, and The Aspen Club.
Evelyn's greatest joys in life were her six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and enjoyed attending their games and events whenever possible.
Evelyn is survived by her son Rick and his wife Cathy, her daughter Kathy. She is survived by grandchildren, Katie, Tad (Erin), Megan (Malcolm), Adam (Jenna), Heather, and Ryan (Bailey), and her great-grandchildren Uam, Makynna, Emma, Ava, Leah, Teague, Malcolm, Maximus, and Corbin. Preceding her in death is Evelyn's husband, Sam, her son Eddie, her son-in-law Leonard, her six siblings AI, Richard, Phillip, Louise, and Ray, and her parents, George and Mollie.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 30 at 2:00 at Bohlender Funeral Chapel at 121 W. Olive St. in Ft Collins.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate any donations to be made in Evelyn's name to the Ahlzeimer's Association ( www.alz.org ) or any charitable organization of your choice.
