HINES, Edwin Franklin Ed, E.F., 91 of Ft. Collins, Colorado and formerly of Radford, Virginia, passed away on April 8, 2011. He and his wife Julia, moved to Colorado in 2002 from Nashville, Tennessee to be closer to family. Ed was born in Carroll County, Virginia to Edwin Fletcher Hines and Mary Ann Elizabeth "Annie" Edwards, on November 6, 1919. He grew up in Radford and married his high school sweetheart Julia Mildred Smith, daughter of Roy G. and Anna Belle Farmer Smith of Radford, Virginia on December 7, 1940. During World War II, Ed served his Country in the Eighth Air Force, stationed in England and was the pilot of a B-17 heavy bomber. After the war ended, Ed worked with his dad in construction in Radford and later owned and operated the Radford Airport for several years, but continuing to fly private aircraft until he was 75 years old. Ed was an entrepreneur and business owner for most of his career, fully retiring in 2008. Ed and Julia were members of Faith E. Free Church of Ft Collins. Ed was preceded in death by his brother; James Price Hines, sister, Margie Marie Hines Roop, son Eric Alan Hines in 2006, and niece Sheryl Hines Duncan in 2009. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Julia and their children; Dr. Judy Bruce and husband, Ray Denver, Jim Hines and wife, Karen Fort Collins, Amy Jones and husband Bob Cranbrook, BC, and daughter-in-law, Vickie Hines TX; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Also surviving are his youngest brother, Gray and his wife Carolyn VA, several nieces, nephews and their families. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Faith E. Free Church in Ft. Collins, Colorado. Military rites service will be conducted at a later date. Donations to Pathways Hospice at www.pathways-care.org will be appreciated.
