"We walk by faith and not by sight..." Delphine C. Garcia Delphine was born at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins on December 24, 1930 to Alejandro and Jovita Garcia. She died peacefully on January 3, 2011 at 4:15 AM. Her family was with her at the time of her death. Delphine grew up in Fort Collins graduating from Holy Family Parochial School in 1944 and Fort Collins High School in 1948. She worked at Forney's as an accountant from 1948 to 1952 until she moved to Denver where she worked as a secretary in Beck's Flower shop for 30 years. During that time, she devoted her time outside of work immersed in her Catholic faith assisting the Theatine priests in church activities, singing in the choir, as secretary of the Parish council, coordinating fund raising dinners and organizing dances. She was the chairperson of Fiesta Mexicana and the Annual Family Day. Delphine was instrumental in raising funds for the seminarians of Saint Andrew Avellino Seminary in Denver. In 1980, she came to live in Fort Collins and was very involved with Holy Family Parish. She was a member of the choir as well as a Eucharistic minister in addition to participation in all church activities. Her passion was to promote the Hispanic culture in Fort Collins as evidenced by the organization of the Mariachi Group and Las Posadas. Evidence of her collaboration with the Fort Collins Museum and Colorado State University students in the promotion of her culture continues today. She had great pride in her bilingualism and her culture. In 1989, Delphine and Sister Mary Alice Murphy worked very hard to organize a Fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe involving the four Catholic parishes in Fort Collins in an effort to create unity. Delphine lived her life to the fullest with her faith as her foundation. She loved to sing and listen to music even in her final hours. She loved to arrange flowers and enjoyed being outdoors. She loved people, especially her family. When she was physically able, she enjoyed entertaining her friends and family. Despite increasing curvature of the spine and a loss of balance, Delphine strived to maintain her independence and used her immobility to socialize by phone or by mail. She always received a multitude of Christmas and birthday cards. Her physical debilitation forced her to give up her commitment as a school crossing guard at Dunn Elementary School. Surviving are her sisters, Luisa G. Padilla and Sister Mary Garcia; as well as her sister-in-law, Tomasita Garcia, and various nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Antonia and Pearl; and brothers, Charles, Mike and Larry. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 326 North Whitcomb Street preceded by a rosary on January 14, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery. Those who wish may view Delphine January 13, 2011 from 12:00?4:00 p.m. at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
