Dale is survived by his loving wife and lifelong companion Betty.) Thorne (Long), daughter
Donna(Ron), sons Leighton(Pam) and Randy(Mary), 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren
and sister Josephine(Thorne)Spatz. He was preceded in death by his father Francis and mother
Bertha, 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Dale proudly served his beloved country during World War II as an Army Air Corp medical
surgical technician. His time in Northern Africa greatly impacted his life and love for his fellow
Americans.
Dale was a man of deep love for his wife Betty whom he was married to for 72 years but also
knew as a childhood friend. Dale was many things to his family, loving husband, father,
teacher, play partner for his great grandchildren and grandchildren and a man that always led
by example.
Dale was born in Kansas and spent his childhood and early adulthood there until 1957 when the
family moved to Colorado. Many summer vacations were spent returning to Kansas to visit all
the relatives and reacquaint with the Kansas humidity and heat.
Dale had many interests and careers throughout his life: Mule team driver on the farm as a
teenager, BS degree in accounting, grain mill manager, glazer, carpenter, boy scout leader and
Sunday morning bacon fryer it always seemed that he worked two jobs as hard work was his
mantra. But time with his family camping, fishing and eventually living in the Poudre Canyon
fulfilled his passion for the outdoors.
Honesty, integrity and hard work were his values. Those lifelong characteristics are his legacy
deeply imbedded in every member of his family.
Dad never liked to say goodbye. It was always, "See you down the road"
"God Bless you Dad. We will always love and miss you!"
A memorial service will occur at a later time and date not yet specified.
