Charlie Red Loffer died May 6, 2009, at his home near Hermosa at the age of 59, following a long illness. Red was born July 28, 1949 in Fort Collins, to Donald and Hazel Loffer. The family later moved to Oregon, where he graduated from high school in 1967. Upon graduation, he entered the Marine Corps., where he served in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Fort Collins. In 1970, married Nora Simpson, the couple had two children, Cathy and Charlie, Jr. This marriage ended in divorce. Red later married Betty Ellis. While in Fort Collins, he worked at several garages, and later owned J and R Auto Service. He contracted with Public Service Co. to maintain their trucks. Red enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo, and spent many hours fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Lloyd. Survivors include wife, Betty of Durango; Charlie, Jr. and Cathy of Fort Collins; step daughters, Ginger Mill and Julie St. Amand of Arizona; brothers, Ernie and Bill Loffer of Oregon; Eddie and Dale Hess of Montana; sisters, Wanda Nukusuk and Donna Messenger of Oregon; step father, Jim Hess of Montana; 10 grand children; and a great granddaughter. Red was quite a jokester, please join family and friends in a celebration of his life at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the V.F.W. located at 603 Lesser Dr., Fort Collins.
