Listen to Obituary
Charles Carl Lockman, 88, of Fort Collins passed away on November 24, 2016 spending his first Thanksgiving in heaven after a lengthy battle with dementia. Charles was born to Peter and Katie Lockman on August 11, 1928. He graduated from LaPorte High School. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy, and served aboard the USS Shangri-La as part of Operation Crossroads: the atomic testing at Bikini Atoll in 1946. He was 35 miles away from the atomic testing where everyone on board the ship were required to wear special glasses to protect their eyes. He enjoyed the experience of being in the Navy – especially seeing Hawaii and Australia.
He married Margaretann Geist on July 11, 1950. To that union a daughter, Tamara Lynn was born. They divorced.

In 1965, Charles along with Arlo Dines also of Fort Collins, formed D and L Drywall, a successful partnership through 2000. Time spent with them and their families, sharing their many stories made for many fun times and lots of wonderful memories. Charles enjoyed many camping trips, watching Nicole perform with the Colorado Academy of the Arts, playing golf, and the many, many trips to Illinois to visit family (playing 5 crowns, 10,000, and Pinnochle.)

He is survived by his wife Nancy (Nan), daughters, Tamara of Phoenix, Nicole Ryan (Kevin), grandson Julian Nunez; and his adopted daughter, Tammi Hofferber Wray of Longmont. He loved all of his grandchildren and never thought of any of them as step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Jen, Jackson, Avery and Logan of Elizabeth, Colorado; Charlie, Jamie, Braxton, and Mason of Phippsburgh, Colorado; Katie and Lilly Byers of Ft. Collins; Colby of Greeley; Zachary, Scott, and Rosalie of Michigan; Jeffrey, Ginny, and Hunter of Durango, Colorado; Skylar, Tori, Kaya, Cooper, and Spencer of Ft. Collins; Kylie and Ella of Longmont; Ashley (Tyler); Hannah, Killian, Jace, and Dominick; Ali Thicksten; Linea Devon, Alyssa, McKenzie of Portland, Oregon.
Preceding Charlie in death are his parents, five brothers, five sisters, daughter, Sherri; son-in-law, Josh; son, Mark; son, Jeff; grandson, Tyler; and son-in-law, Scott.
