Casimir John Zajac was born in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 1, 1923. He grew up in Michigan and after graduating from high school, planted evergreen trees for the CCC. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, and spent time in England, France and Belguim during the Battle of the Bulge. With the aid of the GI Bill, he graduated as a civil engineer from Michigan State University, Lansing. He was employed by the Michigan Department of Transportation for the next 33 years, where he was in charge of the design division. A Michigan roadside park on U. S. 12 was named for Cas and his wife, Jeanette, for exceptional, long service to the department. He and his wife retired to Fort Collins in 1989, and he became an avid golfer. He is survived by two brothers in Michigan. Burial was in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.
