Anita Yellowtail Morin, Baatate'hche (Has Good Knowledge) quietly passed to the Other Side Camp surrounded in song by her son Cary and daughter-in-law Celeste on Monday March 22, 2021. She passed away from complications of Covid 19 and Pneumonia. While in the Fort Collins Hospital, she told her son to tell everyone who prayed for her "thank you." She also said, "do not be sad, I have lived a very good life."
Anita was the daughter of Robert Summers and Margaret "Maggie" Tobacco Yellowtail. She was the last of the Robert Yellowtail family siblings.
Born on December 31, 1931, Anita was a very creative young lady. She was very involved as a young girl in the family ranch; riding horses, herding cattle and just enjoying riding in the country where she roamed the mountains and "red hills" at the Lodge Grass Creek Canyon.
"Has Good Knowledge" graduated from Lodge Grass High School and went to Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, KS. She later married the "Love of her Life," Leslie Morin, and traveled the world with him always landing back home in Montana. Together they have three boys, Leslie, Bob (Helen) and Cary (Celeste) Morin.
In her life, she was a very talented artist. She did outstanding beadwork and during her later years, learned to paint portraits and weave baskets. She was a person who was close to God and was active in church. She had many church friends who are going to miss her charming smile and infinite "wisdom."
Has Good Knowledge was very interested in genealogy. She worked very meticulously in creating a "book" of her father and mother's family tree. Following strong traditional and cultural values, she made sure her children and grandchildren were given the opportunity to participate in powwows. She was the maker and keeper of all of the family's beautiful regalia. Anita was one of the original founders of the annual Northern Colorado Inter-tribal Powwow Association held in Ft. Collins, CO.
Upon the passing of her beloved husband, Les, Anita relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado to be nearer to her son and grandchildren. As a 30-year member of the Fort Collins community, Anita was extremely well loved and embraced by her "adopted" home. She has been an integral member of the Fort Collins community, serving and volunteering in her grandchildren's schools, for various music events and festivals, loaning artifacts to the local museum, and always serving others.
Has Good Knowledge was preceded in death by her father and mother; husband, her siblings Lorena Yellowtail Walks Over Ice, Robert "Jiggs" Yellowtail, Winona Yellowtail Plenty Hoops, Joy Yellowtail Toineeta, Majorie Yellowtail Steffes, Bufford Yellowtail, Laura Tobacco He Does It, Vernon, Tommy and Ruth Tobacco.
