Maria A. Salas, 82, passed away March 8, 2010 in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was born in Muzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico on March 18, 1927 to Ramon Alvarez and Carmen Espadas. She came to the United States at the age of 8 months and became a U.S. citizen in 1974. Maria worked at Colorado State University as a cook for 15 years. She also worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Max Binkley for 20 years. She worked for Volunteers Clearing House, teaching cooking and sewing. She was active with the Ancianos Unidos since its inception. Maria volunteered for Volunteers of America. She had a heart for helping others. She was an active member of Templo Betel Assembly of God Church aka Living Waters serving on the church board, as Secretary/Treasurer and as Women's Ministry Leader. Her passion was serving the Lord until the end. She will be remembered by many as a friend, a sister, a leader and more affectionately as "grandma". She was well known for her excellent cooking and her giving. No one could leave her home without "a little something" for later. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Bertha A. Chapa and a son, Juan A. Salas. She is survived by 6 sons, Henry Salas Teresa, Samuel Salas Connie, Richard Salas Beatrice, Ernest Salas all of Fort Collins, Danny Salas of Arvada, Colorado and Andy Salas Luci of Westampton, New Jersey, one daughter, Dora Salas-Vigil Andy of Fort Collins and adopted daughter, Concepcion Saenz of Pierce, Colorado. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, 27 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at Foothills Assembly of God, 305 W Swallow Rd on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Pathways Hospice in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, Colorado 80524.
