Edward Miller, 88 of Longmont, Colorado died July 22, 2009 at Applewood Living Center. He was born on October 30, 1920 in Greeley, Colorado to Andrew and Anna Stricker Miller. Edward grew up on a farm in the Timnath-Ft. Collins area where he attended local schools and was a good athlete. In 1942 he was inducted into the U.S. Army. During the four years he served during World War II he was deployed as a combat engineer, to the Aleutian Islands, Okinawa, and Korea. He was honorably discharged with the following citations: American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. On September 26, 1948 he was united in marriage to Viola Smith at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Collins, Colorado. Throughout his lifetime Edward operated heavy construction machines, farmed north of Timnath, Colorado, worked as a stone mason, and concluded as a custom meat cutter and shop steward for Continental Foods retiring in 1987 with twenty-five years of service. Upon Retiring he enjoyed visiting, gardening, fishing, traveling and his trips to Blackhawk that sometimes had mixed results. In 2005, he moved to Longmont from Fort Collins to be closer to his daughter and her family. Mr. Miller is survived by his daughter Sally McNichols and husband Ron of Longmont, Colorado; Grandson Steve McNichols of Longmont, Colorado; Sister Rosie Walker of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Brothers Rhinie and wife Alice Miller of Greeley, Colorado, Herman Richard Miller and wife Carolyn of Windsor, Colorado; Brother-in-law William and wife Carol Smith, John and wife Alice Smith of Loveland, Colorado; Sisters-in-law Katherine and husband Frank Ericson of Ft. Collins, Colorado and Minnie Wissenk of Marshfield, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Viola; Sisters Helen Fritzler, Marion Dillon, and Lillian Jones; Brothers Herman Miller, Rueben Miller, and Elmer Miller. Funeral Service will be Monday, 2:30 pm at Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive, Ft. Collins, Colorado. Visitation will take place Sunday, 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery Fort Collins, Colorado. In lieu of flowers donations can be made Disabled American Veterans in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
